Just a quick update – Dewi, Chris and Mike completed a cheeky 30 mile cycle around Beeston, Cheshire on saturday morning. This was all taken at a very leisurely pace and we would love to have more of you join us on the next outing.

Don’t be put off by Dewi’s hurling stance – it was the night before rather than his cycling exertions that led to the tactical chunder!

Top route chosen by Dewi led us in a circle starting and finishing in Christleton with time on the clock for a lovely pint and lunch at the Ring o Bells! www.ringobellschester.co.uk/

Children in Need – Lime Street Station Collection

A superb day was had by all attending the Children in Need cash collection. Our investment in a Pudsey suit paid dividends and generated a huge amount of interest on the day and translated into cold hard cash of £1198 for children in need.

Many thanks must go to Guy Dove for organising the day (and providing a towel), the Liverpool tablers who wore the suit (boy it was hot!) and to the Lime Street Station staff who looked after us!

LRT8 Darts night

Another great evening saw Rowan “the Power” Porter demonstrate a masterclass of darts early on before leaving the floor to Peter “chucker” Barton who after flying through the early rounds, needed only a bullseye to win an historic victory. The video tells you all you need to know!

41 Club Golf

By all accounts (other than Will’s) it was a super day’s golf and as it was organised by Tudor Roberts at his local club, no surprise I guess that he won the 41 Club Trophy with a massive score of 45. I’m no golfing expert, but that equates to 15 out of 18 birdies on average. I’m not sure Tiger Woods that even managed that many birdies in one session.

Congratulations go to Lars “el Bandito” who won the LRT8 Trophy, again. He was too modest to hang around and collect his prize, so I am storing it for you Lars. By way of encouragement to non-players, it is an all inclusive tournament. To illustrate this, our bottom two players didn’t manage to score more that the bottom one player of 41 Club. Yet we still managed to win the putter …Now, if only it was eXtreme Golf …

Cheers Mr Chairman Xtreme. Thanks to everyone for coming. Was a great turnout with 58 in total and we were even lucky with the weather.

I am sorry you didn’t win Mr Chairman but indeed Janine had clearly been investing more hours of practice and Nig’s decades as a professional clearly were a contributing factor. May I suggest attending the Xtreme Elite Training Programme prior to any future event? There could clearly be no complaints about the flat lawn and lake which was clearly top-class having been tenderly groomed by our team of green keepers and swamp tenders respectively. Thanks to Nig for performing the rather thankless yet crucial task of organising us all to a conclusion.

Thanks also to everyone including better halves who contributed salads, drink etc. Much appreciated.

Apologies to Richard L for failing to properly mark his birthday with chorus and cake. I can’t believe that your loyalties are now split between Round Table and our Father club.

I’d like to say a big thank you to all the LRT8 memebrs who gave their time this weekend to purchase and deliver 48 superb hampers. As ever it is a pleasure to deliver to some very grateful people indeed and thanks should go to Age UK and CYC for providing the names and addresses and for contacting the recipients in advance.

A very straightforward shop at Costco was supplemented by Dave Lowe wiping out the supermarkets of Liverpool in a desperate drive for 48 bottles of sherry. I think Dave and Vicky are now on the drunkard watch list for Tesco, Sainsbury’s and ASDA.

Once again Damian “route master” Wyatt was on hand to divvy up the routes and we head out about 11am after packing the hampers and the obligatory photo opportunity.

Due to an intensely painful back injury I took a back seat role and simply coordinated and drove around but even so I really enjoyed the weekend.

Thanks again – yours in pain
