Despite some technical difficulties with the usual food collection, thanks to the support of the Florence Cohen Charitable Trust, the Hamper Deliveries went ahead as usual. a stalwart team worked hard on the Sunday to put together 40 of the best hampers we’ve ever seen and these were delivered to the local elderly who would otherwise have gone without. Special thanks also go to Age Concern for their help in identifying hamper recipients.

Annual Christmas Cash Collection

by on Dec.09, 2009, under Charity

Once again, a small, but determined, team of LRT8 members and friends gathered in Moorfields Station to ask the kindly folk of Liverpool to part with their hard earned cash in the name of charity. Despite some minor setbacks regarding people knowing which station the collection was taking place at, the team managed to raise a fantastic £220 over a couple of hours – an amazing achievement given the current financial climate

After a fantastic start to our busiest charity week of the year we rounded it off with our annual Christmas Hamper Weekend that again has beaten previous years. 42 hampers were delivered to some of the neediest elderly people in the Liverpool community.

As well as the abundance of food that was donated towards the hamper delivery a further £132 was raised on the day and all this despite the bite of the Credit Crunch! Of course the day would not have been a success without the kind and generous support of the Customers of Sainsbury’s on Rice Lane in Walton – our warmest thanks!. We would also like to thanks the staff at Age Concern for their support once again with this event and The Central Youth Club for allowing us to use the venue once more to sort and pack the hampers.

And lets not forget the volunteers, without whom, this event would never have happened so a special thanks to all those who helped out on Saturday and Sunday, Will B, Rowan & Louise P, Dave C, Dave R, Richard D, Paul R, Mahiyar K, Dave L and Viki, Adam M, Rich G, Mike H, Pete B, Terry R, James M, Damian and Kate W. They braved the cold, warmth and having there ear chewed by most of the old people we kindly visited. Thanks to Tim T who also assisted in the arrangements with the CYC.

A last mention has to go to the Trustees of Florence Cohen Charitable Trust who kindly donated £1,000 towards our efforts, this money was used to fill out the hampers, provide a bottle of Sherry for each and to provide a little extra cash at such a needy time of year.

Thanks again
